InHerSpace specialises in providing professional women with strongpersonal branding and compelling narratives. We work with corporations, women's networks and high-profile individuals
Media Training
Successful companies must support and present their diverse talent to the media.
Statistically women are less likely to put themselves forward for media performances, so it is critical to provide expert training to enable women to shine.
InHer Space trains senior women and emerging female talent to develop the skills, gravitas and positive attitude they need to become top performers on any platform.
The Women Media Training Programme will be led by our lead facilitator, Eleanor Mills, Founder and Editor in Chief of Noon.org.uk, ex Chair of Women in Journalism (2014-2021) ex Editorial Director of the Sunday Times and award-winning editor of The Sunday Times Magazine drawing on her 20 years of media experience.
Overview
The basic rules of interacting with the media – what does the journalist want? What do you want to say? How it can go wrong and how to do it right.
The talk draws on Eleanor’s 20 years of experience both as an award-winning interviewer of prime-ministers, CEOs and showbiz stars and as a regular media performer herself.
She introduces the rules of the game and numerous transferable techniques.
Having withstood Piers Morgan banging his head on the Good Morning Britain desk while she made a mild feminist point, Eleanor knows how to handle the trickiest situations with wit and wisdom and trains participants to handle the media with confidence.
Media Training Outline
Our training is designed to equip senior women with the skills required to become poised reliable, relateable, effective media performers
- Challenge: What are you trying to communicate? How to simplify the message into three clear points and learn how to deliver them with confidence
- Analysis: Personalised discussion of strong and weak points of each candidates’ communication style – what to keep, what to avoid, how to do that
- Perspective: What preconceptions does the audience already have? How are you going to tackle and disarm those?
- Delivery: How do you put your points across? The art of the pause, redefining the question to the one you want to answer, using humour to deflect, how to be relatable. This also includes technique – where to look when the camera is rolling, sound issues, when to interrupt, down-the-line interviews, soundbites, handling press conferences etc
- Curation: We put the theory into practice and film a trial interview. This is then played back and watched to refine technique
- Reflection: what has been learnt – reiterating the key takeaways for the future
- Image: what to wear and what to avoid, the rules on jewellery, colours, patterns, hair etc.
- Gravitas: too often women are talked over or not heard. We teach simple effective techniques to boost executive presence. Crucial not just for media performances but for career progression. Learn how to frame your personal story, every day and in all situations.
- Our unrivalled team of senior female journalists from all mediums will ensure you get the very best from your training. Learn from the very best female professionals
